Juicing is an easy way to get your daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Although the process expels the fiber, studies have shown it to be nearly as effective as consuming the food whole. For example, the U.S. Department of Agriculture analyzed 12 fruits and discovered that 90% of antioxidant activity was left in the juice, rather than the fiber.
Although you can juice at home with a $100 Cuisinart, it can save a lot of time (and all of the mess) if you grab it on the go. Below are our favorite 10 juice bars in Chicago.
Loop Juice | Near West Side | CFR PICK
Loop Juice operates out of the French Market, serving “squeezed-to-order” vegetable juices and seasonal fruit smoothies for less than five bucks. Our favorites are the Green Smoothie (orange, pineapple, kale, parsley) and the Cold Fighter (orange, grapefruit, lemon, apple, ginger). They also offer delivery through GrubHub.
Earth’s Healing Cafe | Ravenswood | CFR PICK
Earth’s Healing Cafe offers a huge variety of therapeutic juices and superfood smoothies. All ingredients are organic and over half are locally sourced. We like the Dark Maca (coconut, banana, cacao, maca, cinnamon) and Liquid Sunlight (apple, pineapple, mango, kale, spinach) smoothies. The cafe also offers several cleansing packages and a variety of teas.
Chicago Health Foods | Near North Side | CFR PICK
CHF is small specialty grocer that offers the typical range of supplements, powders, and organic vegan options. The best part is the cafe in the back corner, which serves fresh juice with the typical ingredients - beets, celery, kale, spinach, etc. The cafe also has locally-brewed coffee and a variety of sandwiches and wraps.
