9 Winter Golf Options

Chicago has several options to keep your golf game going in the winter. Golf simulators provide the ability to play a full round at a virtual PGA course (some even include access to a full bar). The city also has a few high-tech indoor golf academies to improve your swing. If you want more of an outdoor experience, Chicago Parks District maintains a driving range with heated stalls.

Golf Simulators

Play18 Chicago | CFR PICK | Loop | $50 per hour
Play18 feels like an upscale country club, with leather chairs, full service bar, and luxury locker room. The facility boast four PGA Tour golf simulators with 50 different course options. It also has two driving bays ($30/hr) equipped with sensors to measure flight, distance, spin, and more.

Fairways | Lincoln Park | CFR PICK | Inquire for pricing
Fairways is a new establishment in Lincoln Park offering a “links and drinks” experience. The first floor is a full-service restaurant and bar specializing in burgers and bourbon cocktails. The second floor is an up upscale golf lounge equipped with four HD golf simulators. Clubs are available for rent.

City Tee Time | Loop | $50 per hour
City Tee Time is an indoor golf lounge located in the Insurance Center Building. The facility has an 18-course simulator, driving bay, and short-game area. It also has a TV and free wifi access. City Tee Time is unstaffed, so they’ll email you an access code when you register for a tee time.

Partner in Golf | Austin | $70-90 per hour
Partner in Golf is an executive style golf room located on the west side. The facility has a golf simulator with 35 course options. Individual lessons are also provided for $100-150.


Tourbound Golf Academy | CFR PICK | Loop | $225-250 for initial evaluation
Tourbound is a national golf school with seven locations across the U.S., including one at the Play 18 facility in the Loop. Instructors utilize a robotic swing trainer (RoboGolfPro) to read your swing and guide you to a better one. Check out the video below to see the robot in action. It was filmed in California, but you get the idea (see the 0:48 mark). Lessons cost $125-150 (after the initial evaluation) and include a video analysis.

GolfTEC | Lincoln Park | $165 for initial evaluation
GolfTEC is a national organization with over 350 instructors on staff. Lessons utilize proprietary g-SWING and g-PUTT systems, which analyze your form using digital video and motion measurement. GolfTec also has Vector Pro Launch Monitors for use in custom club fittings. Lessons cost $42-73 (after the initial evaluation).

Catalyst Golf | Loop | $150-200 for private session
Catalyst provides indoor golf coaching at The Buckingham Athletic Club in the Loop. The facility has motion capture, launch analysis, ball roll analysis, and other technology to provide immediate feedback on your swing. Catalyst specializes in long-term coaching programs, although single lessons can be purchased.

Golf in Motion | Near West Side | Inquire for pricing
Golf in Motion’s studio is equipped with technology that provides swing analysis and ball flight statistics. Students are also given access to web lessons and optional on-course packages. The head instructor (Tim) has experience as a Tour Fitting Professional for Mizuno.

Driving Range

Diversey Driving Range | CFR PICK | Lincoln Park | $10-15 per bucket
Diversey Driving Range is an all-season facility operated by Chicago Parks District. The range has two tiers equipped with heated stalls. It also has target greens, putting greens, and an 18-hole mini golf course. Club rentals and PGA Instruction are available at an extra cost.
